The Sans of Time

I love the word “sans.” I think I first heard it when we read Shakespeare in school – you know, the passage about old people being like babies, “Sans eyes, sans teeth, sans everything.” Or something. I’m sans memory, so who knows what the real thing is. Anyway! This weekend we were sans kids! The problem is, when faced with this, I sit, paralyzed with indecision. How best to spend my time? Should I nap and catch up on sleep? Clean the house and dump out broken toys when they’re not around to protest? Read? Shop? Go out and pahhhhrty? I did a little of everything:

1. I completed #17 on our list of things to do in Chicagoland. Roger and Linda both blogged about it, and since I am the Girl Who Forgets Her Camera On Adventures, I’ll let their blogs testify to what we did.

2. Went downtown to Schuba’s to hear David Wilcox play. I had no idea who he was before we got there, but enjoyed it and will definitely be downloading some of his songs from iTunes. He was a great storyteller and started out the concert talking about how we don’t visit places in our own area…and put that sentiment into a song about how we don’t know what we have until we’re away from it.

3. Negative Shopped at J.Jill (Negative Shopping is when you return things and end up richer that you were before you walked into the store.) and Positively Shopped at DSW.

4. Ate rib tips and watched Casino Royale with Mr Me. We used to do this when we were sans kids; sit on the floor and stuff ourselves with rib tips. Mmmm…. barbecue sauce.

5. Mr Me replaced the mesh part of three screen windows, while I planted herbs in three cute little pots for my kitchen window. Welcome Spring!

Now the kids are back. Kids and a goldfish our daughter won at a Bass Pro Shop they visited! (His name is Bell Ding-Dong. I’m afraid he’s not long for this world.)
