Scary Mary

Mary Higgins Clark has a new book out. My mom and I usually buy her books within the first week of its release: this time we hesitated. We read her books in about four hours, is it worth it to pay for a hardcover? But after finding out I would be 29th on the list at the library (which means I’d read it in about, oh, 2010!) and that it’s available for around $14 on Amazon.com – I went ahead and bought it.

In about four hours of reading, I finished it and can recommend it to those who are Mary Higgins Clark fans. Her earlier books are creepier and more suspenseful, so if you’re new to her writing, read those first. If you’re a fan of Clark’s, this book will be just what you expect of her!

When Kay is six years old, she overhears a quarrel in a chapel at the Carrington mansion…twenty-two years later, she marries Peter Carrington who, shortly after the marriage, is charged with the murder of a girl and of his pregnant wife. Ooh… is he the killer? Has Kay married the man she overheard fighting when she was six? Or is it Peter’s assistant and “protector” Vince? Can you figure it out?

Ed. Note: Whenever I find myself considering the cost of a book, I consider that I go to about 3 movies a year. A night at the movies is $9 for the ticket, $4 for the food – same as a book! And the book lasts much longer than a two hour movie! There’s the rationalization, folks. Try it, it works.

  1. I’m glad she has a new book out, my mom and I still read all of hers too.
