Menfreya in the Morning
It was a rainy day. And rainy days mean one thing to me: I have to read! So, I did my ordinary “chores,” but found a book that’s languished on my shelf for quite some time and began reading.
Well, let’s go back to the beginning. I buy a lot of books. I find them everywhere, and then bring them home and pile them everywhere. The task I completed last week was to clean out the basement playroom, but in that playroom is a whole wall of books that I can’t blame the kids for! They’re mine. All mine! I went through and packed up two boxes of books that I’ve read, but can’t bring myself to throw out. And I made a pile of about 20 books that I want to read and carried those up to my other bookshelf in the bedroom. Those 20 books have been staring me in the face, asking me to read them, begging me to read them. Most of the books are from a library sale I went to last year, and from that sale, I bought about four Victoria Holt books.
Victoria Holt wrote light, fluffy novels – some would call them romance novels, most of which I read as a teenager – that are usually set in the 1800′s and full of dark castles and long gowns and evil governesses. All good material for rainy days. So today I read Menfreya in the Morning, a book – yes, you guessed it! – which had a dark castle (on an island, no less!), long gowns and and evil baby nurse. Oooh… creepy. And so I sped through the book, skimmed and skipped along to the ever so romantic ending and enjoyed a rainy summer day.
Ed. Note: A romance novel? She admits to a romance novel? How shallow. Life Rule: Don’t ever get so caught up in trying to be “deep” that you don’t enjoy the wading.

Ah yes, but the wading is the hardest part.
Thank you. Thank you very much. I’ll be here all week.

yeah, but if you have a super fluff novel, it makes the time go a lot faster while you’re ‘wading’
