Weather Report

Update:
-4: number of librarians it took to help me find the book (ironically) titled “The Case of the Missing Books.” But, this being a different library than the one we usually go to, I was so grateful that all 4 of them smiled and were friendly! Wow!
-2: The number of Friendly Restaurant People: My girls and I took a drive and I told myself to try the first interesting restaurant I saw (that wasn’t a chain). We found a little hole-in-the-wall place near us that we had never been to. Two older (um, I’m trying to be polite, but they were uh, you know, way older) men were the cook and the order taker. They were friendly as well – which, on top of the 4 friendly librarians – which was so refreshing. 7yo ordered a half rack of ribs. Older (way older) man smiled and said he didn’t think she could do it. But she proved him wrong (with just a tiny bit of help from her sister). We had to wait about 20 minutes for our food – so we brought in our library books and read. There were no other patrons in the place at that time, so it was kinda fun to be by ourselves. The highlight for me was that my diet coke came in a frosty mug. The food wasn’t the best ever, but the atmosphere, combined with the frosty mug made me love it and promise Friendly Older (way older) Man #1 that we’d be back.
-1: Then we drove up to Swedish Days. This is a summer festival near us that we’ve never been to. It was rainy and chilly, but really, actually good weather for summer festivals, in my opinion. At the kid’s craft tent, you might want to sit down for this, there was a Friendly Teenage Craft Helper! I… wow… I hardly knew what to do, except smile in return. Here was a helpful, happy to be there kid that had no problem at all with the number of kids there painting with veggies and fruit, and sprinkling glitter all over. After the kids rode on a couple rides, and we ate ice cream from Oberweis (served from the Republican Party Tent – I did vote for Oberweis, but secretly hoped he would lose, because I was afraid his focus would go off of the ice cream he is supposed to be making for me), and walked around, we came home. Now every kid under my control is in bed and hopefully, thinking happy thoughts.

What a difference friendly people can make in your day.
