Monument
Last week Mr Me went on a little business trip to Ft Hood, Texas. Mainly he was there to record some interviews with soldiers and their spouses and some sessions of a certain speaker whose name starts with a Chap and ends with a man. He had a great time and was very interested to learn more about the military life. Two chaplains from the base showed them around. One of the neatest pictures he took was of this monument. The monument itself was made by an artisan in Tikrit, who melted some of the bronze from the destroyed statues of Saddam Hussein to form a new memorial to the fallen soldiers from the U.S. The memorial shows a soldier mourning the death of his comrade, and an Iraqi girl placing her hand on his shoulder. The names of all those from Ft Hood who have been killed in action in Iraq are displayed on plaques all around the statue.
