Train ‘Em Right
The harsh reality of life is that even after your Wheel of Fortune dreams are dashed, you still must face the morning sun. So we took a little trip to a place I like to call the “in-law’s,” because, well, because it’s the in-law’s.
Mr MIP drove us downtown where we caught the South Shore Line. This was SuperBoy’s first train ride – and he was in posing mode for me as I clicked away:
When we arrived at our destination, the girls had an art lesson with the best art teacher ever (Grandma!). And while they learned shading techniques, my father-in-law and I visited his favorite store in the universe: Costco! Here’s Fil (father-in-law) putting my 4,346 roll pack of toilet paper into the trunk. He’s also laughing in a manner which says plainly, “Why couldn’t he have just married that other girl? She was so mild-mannered and sweet.”
That night we went trick-or-treating around the in-law’s block. To show what a nice, sweet, dreamy place they live in, I include the photo of the kids standing with the rescued greyhounds dressed in their very own costumes. (Because it is my dream that we could go back to a gentler, kinder nation where people still dressed their greyhounds for Halloween):
The kids came home with bags loaded with candy, including full-size candy bars. I was amazed and hereafter we shall do our best to trick-or-treat only in this nirvana. (Using the brain God gave me, I created a “Parent’s Bowl.” This means that when the kids talk back or disobey Mommy now says, “Oh, one piece of candy for the Parent’s Bowl, please!” Yum.)
The next day we took a field trip to a historic farm, which has miles of trails through beautiful woodland. SuperBoy and I always kept the lead!
And we weren’t done yet! We also had to visit the beach even though it was 48 degrees. We’re dedicated.
And we polished the day off with a trip to a Texas steak restaurant. Where SuperBoy consumed approximately 12 pounds of peanuts:
Which is totally fine, since I have 4,346 rolls of toilet paper now. (well, okay, 4,345.)
