Every year I end up with a Jeopardy calendar. It’s one of those ones that has a question (or “answer” if you’re being all Jeopardy technical) for every day of the year. If somebody doesn’t get it for me for Christmas, I buy it at the 50% sale at Borders after the holidays.

Since I’m starting to wrap up my yearlong lists, I decided just to finish the calendar today. Because, yes, I keep track of how many I get right and how many I get wrong. Weirdo. So I answered the questions all the way through the end of the year.

I was hoping to not hit over 100 wrong… but I ended up with 261 right and 104 wrong. That comes out to a percentage of 72% right for the year. (I think. I am not good at math. So maybe I’m wrong. but I’m pretty sure it’s right. I think.) I always thought I’d like to know what it felt like to be 93% smart, so 72% is not that great. But next year maybe I’ll be a tad smarter and I’ll know the name of the Scot who discovered Lake Ngama after succeeding in crossing the Kalahari Desert.

I was aided by the fact that the “New Testament” was one of the last categories of the year. (This “beloved physician” is thought to be the only Gentile contributor to the New Testament)

And I was enlightened by the very last question of the year: For ancient Babylonians, the most frequent item on New Year’s lists of these was to return borrowed farm equipment. I didn’t know Babylonians had resolutions. Huh. You learn something new every day.

Update: According to reports, Alex Trebek has had a minor heart attack, but is fine. I just hope I didn’t cause it by my not reaching 82% this year.
