Book Rec

I’ve been remiss in posting about the exciting last week we’ve had. Mainly this is due to the fact that I found myself totally wrapped up in a book during any free time I had. I love that when it happens! I couldn’t put the book down. Last week I finally finished David Copperfield, a book that is about 700 pages long. It took me forever to read. This book was about 580 pages, and took me four days. That right there is my proof of a good book!

The book is New England White by Stephen Carter. From the book: “Stephen L Carter returns to the New England university town of Elm Harbor, where a murder begins to crack the veneer that has hidden the racial complications of the town’s past, the secrets of a prominent family, and the most hidden bastions of African-American political influence.”

Mainly the book focuses on Julia Carlyle, the wife of the school president and a mother of four. She ends up being the one who investigates and figures out the puzzle to the mystery and it was her that you grow to care about throughout the writing. (I apologize for not providing a deeper analysis of the book -just read it; you’ll like it.)

Stephen Carter’s first novel, The Emperor of Ocean Park is equally as good, and worth the read!

  1. Or do you just like this author because of his name? :)
This kind of read will definitely have to wait till later for me! I have a few books to take with me that I know I’ll be able to put down easily, otherwise I’ll miss the sights!

  2. yeah, that probably boosted my rating a little!!
