Windy Thoughts

The wind is literally howling outside right now. I don’t have the radio or tv on, because I like hearing the terrible wind pounding at my neighbor’s open shed door. It inspired me to roam the house’s bookshelves looking for my next Great Read. I just finished the most wonderful mystery book and I love it when that happens… however, it does cause some consternation as to what to read next. Something lighter? Something funny? Something just as moody? How could any book live up to that one? The book I chose is laying in front of me opened to the first page…”On the ninth of August, 1964, Rome lay asleep in afternoon light as the sun swirled in a blinding pinwheel above the roofs, its low hills, and its gilded domes.”

What do you think? Sound promising?

I think I’ll go try reading the second, and maybe even a third or fourth, line. With a hot drink. And a blanket. And the sound of the wind reminding me that I’m very certain I never would have made it as a pioneer woman.

“The city was quiet and all was still except the crowns of a few slightly swaying pines, one lost and tentative cloud, and an old man who rushed through the Villa Borghese, alone. ” – (The promising second line from A Soldier of the Great War by Mark Helprin)
