Confused Cynic

I am a cynic. I’m actually rather proud of that fact. And, rather than seeing it as a detriment, I applaud my cynicism and am grateful it’s saved me from quite a few nasty situations. Okay, I’m just guessing it’s saved me from nasty situations, because even with cynicism installed, I’ve still had a few situations in my life in which people have turned out to be What I Did Not Expect and the Deal Did Not Pan Out. Follow me?

Anyway, my cynical nature was reading a good book last week in which the author stated that they did not have any money to furnish their new home. So they made out a list of every item of furniture they needed, and by the end of the summer, they had found every single item on their list for $1500 (they did this through garage sales and such) and she went on to say that God cared about their house and provided the furniture.

Interesting, Cynical Celf said. Then Cynical Celf got all funny and said, what the kids really would love are three school desks for their school. They think this is the one thing that is awful about homeschooling: that you don’t have a desk.

I kinda jokingly prayed, If I am to survive SuperBoy’s preschool experience, maybe he needs a desk. We’ll have to look into that.

The next day, Mr MIP comes home from his bike ride and showed me he had found this (no, I hadn’t told him about my thoughts):

The perfect little desk for Mr SuperBoy. Oh, ha ha, God, you’re so funny. Cynical Celf cowered in the corner as Thankful Thelf smiled. Well, guess I only need two more desks. Yesterday I walked in the door, and this is what I saw:

We are now the owners of three perfect-sized desks. That we found for free. We’ll clean them up a little and repaint/restain and we’ll be good to go.

Cynical Celf is conflicted. Thankful Thelf is smug.

  1. Cheeers for the desks!…rather cheers for God who had them placed where you would find them…knowing ahead of time, of course, that you needed them :-)
I imagin your gaurding angels and the Lord, Himself, similed all day waiting for you guys to find them.

  2. Wow! That’s very cool! Almost (nah!) enough to make one less cynical! :-) Have a very happy big day – whenever it is!
