The contest for cool Republican Swag or Cool Swag from Republicans or Can Cool and Republican Be in the Same Sentence Swag is still going on until Thursday night. Be sure to enter a comment to be counted toward the drawing. The post is below this one – Here is a direct link.
But, like at a long family dinner with David, I now need to do something to bring the attention back to moi.
Under the category Things I Never Knew: I ran out of brown sugar the other day. And did you know you can make your own? Add 1 tablespoon molasses for every cup (I did a cup and a quarter) of regular granulated sugar and you have brown sugar. (PH!!! Are you proud of me for figuring this out? Remember our one conversation??)
Next, a photo entitled: A Slippery Slope and How We Started Down It
(I’m talking about the drink in her hand)
Pay Me To Shop And I Will:
I haven’t mentioned CVS lately, because I haven’t gone. I figured that into account, of course, and here’s my math:
Number of times I could have gone to CVS this summer: 25
Number of times I didn’t go to CVS this summer: 23
Number of dollars I could have spent each time I went to CVS: $1,000 (I mean, I had the potential to spend that much, right??)
Ipso facto: I saved $23,000 this summer!
What? Isn’t that how you do your budget?
Anyway, all that to say, this week I finally went back. The deals are getting better (why are they better in the fall/winter?) and I had to take advantage! To add to the excitement, I had turned in our points from our debit card for a $45 gift card to CVS and that’s what I used to pay.
Today’s deal was three Cover Girl lipsticks. Get this, CoverGirl lipsticks are on sale Buy 1, Get 1 free this week at CVS AND there was a coupon in last Sunday’s paper for Buy 1, Get 1 Free CoverGirl lipsticks – so both $9.99 lipsticks are free! Then the little lipgloss on the right down there was $5.99, and if you bought it, you got $5.99 back in ECBs (these are like CVS cash, you use them on future purchases as dollars) – so it was free. Not only that, but there was a $1 off coupon in the paper, so they paid me $1 to buy it.
I’m such a nerd.

Hello Kelli,
I was so pleased to hear from you that I followed a link on facebook all the way to your blog (if you knew what a big step that is for me, you would be flattered) and I absolutely love it! You are funny and adorable and your kids are precious. My family (Troy and the four kids) live in Chesterton, IN, where he does a difficult to explain federal job in Chicago and I homeschool and write. Send me an e-mail some time (mollyannsabourin@yahoo.com) and let me know what you all are up to. Say hi to Steve for me!
Love,
Molly (Maddex) Sabourin

Kelli, we take Lane ( age 2) to Starbucks and she looooves to get coffee. Which is really just milk in a coffee cup, but she feel so grown up doing it. I’m usually hoping other people don’t think I gave my baby a latte or something.
Awesome savings this summer.

Kelli…you must be exhausted!

Molly!!! I’ll email.
Rachel – same here… My kids know way too much about Starbucks
Janet – could you just give me a general percentage as to the amount of sarcasm in your comment?

A nerd, maybe, but a frugal nerd nonetheless.

No sarcasm; math tires me out. Math and coupons…well, now I need a nap.
I know you’re thinking, “she likes sudoku?” Yeah, well, there’s no math involved in sudoko.

You’re NOT a nerd.

Thanx for clarifying the non sarcasm, Janet. I am not good at math unless it has to do with money and how I get to keep more of it.

Does the brown sugar get classified as light or dark brown?
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:56 am
Mike – Um, light? Just add more molasses to make it darker!
