Today was our annual Drive to Chicago Then Walk a Million and One Miles in Slush and Look at Lights and Don’t Lose Your Christmas Spirit After the Four Hundredth Time “I Lost My Glove!” Is Said.
I am not even going to mention the person’s name who forgot our camera in the car. Even though it’s not my name. Instead, I amused myself by sending lots of pictures of me from my camera phone through to my brother’s email address (he just got DSL today. I told him I was trying it out for him.)
But we did hold on to our spirit and saw the Macy’s windows (not very good this year – boy, that economy. Ruining everything.) and visited our pal Santa Claus. Bless that Santa Claus, when he was told they wanted a pug, a chihuahua and a ferret, he replied, “Well, I can’t give live animals without parental permission.” (I sure hope he doesn’t bring dead ones. That will be an interesting explanation.)
I’m not gonna lie…What I want my kids to remember is that we went downtown every year and had a great time looking at the Macy’s windows and the Christmas lights in Chicago. But there are moments of losing gloves, and sweating in your wool coat because you dressed so warm to brave the 18 degree weather and five people are on this floor of the store and three people are on this floor and SuperBoy has just about run into five hundred different shoppers and …. argh. You have to look at the bigger picture and ignore the frozen toes. Too bad so much of life is like that.Stay strong, people.
And have lunch at Grand Lux Cafe. That helps bring the bigger picture into focus.

That’s not the real Santa. The REAL Santa is riding around Cary on a firetruck.

Did you get the cookies at Grand Lux? I walk in that weather every day! Not as much as you did, but I do a lot of walking. Before Obama was in our building, I used to love to go for a walk on a cold day in the city, but now it just takes too long to get back in through security.

MIke – we get the beignets for dessert. yum!
Say hi to Obama for us!
I think the operative word in your sentence about walking in the cold is “I”…you know, no mention of SuperBoy being with ya.

I will bring Superboy in to work with me someday soon. We will see if he makes it past the secret service.
