Miserly Moms by Jonni McCoy. Here’s her website: Miserly Moms
Miserly is an okay term. Just means you’re watching your money. Scrooge-y and Cheap are not good terms.
Watching:
Every season of Everybody Loves Raymond – this all started because my father-in-law said once, in an off-hand manner, that I reminded him of Deborah from the show. I didn’t think this was a good thing. Now I’m studying the show to see if it is or not. Whaddya think?
Top Chef: Las Vegas: Yum. Although, I really rather enjoyed Top Chef Masters.
What are you watching?
Doing:
Schooling. Violin lessons. Violin performance at GG’s house. Really wish I had time to practice the piano. I spend so much time telling the girls they need to practice – and I rarely have the chance to sit down and practice myself. I’d probably be a lot better at the piano if I actually played it once in a while! What do you wish you had time to practice?
Reviewing:
My LDWB (Long Distance Workout Buddy) and I both bought the Wii Active Trainer. We did the 30 Day Challenge (20 workouts in 30 days using the Trainer). Today is my last day! In case you’re considering buying it, let me review it for you:
- A lot of the exercises are fun – playing tennis, volleyball, basketball and inline skating. There are drills for those sports and they are entertaining.
-But a lot of the exercises are just straightforward squats and squat jumps and using the resistance band (included with the purchase of the game) to do arm exercises. It is still work.
-The workouts themselves only last about 20-30 minutes and are not expending enough calories to really do much help. Both LDWB and I added additional cardio at the gym. I suppose it would be enough if you had just started working out (not that I’m the workout queen, I’m just saying, if you’re brand new to exercising – yes, it would be good.)
-The most frustrating thing of all was the remotes and the nunchuck, which you had to insert in this pocket on a “belt” you wear around your thigh. Well, after the second time of trying that, I stopped using the belt and just held the nunchuck down on my thigh. This was annoying and also led to me discovering that if you just raise the nunchuck up and down in the right rhythm, the pretend trainer thinks you did the squat jump. I’m just saying it can easily lead down a road of cheater-y. The bad side of that is that both LDWB and I found ourselves actually yelling out LOUD to the pretend trainer when he would say comments such as, “Come on, I could do better than that on my off day.” Ooh, snap. I was so mad. So sometimes the remote just wouldn’t register on the Wii and it would stop and reprimand you for not giving 100%. Whatev.
So, all in all, I rate the Wii Trainer a 7 out of 10. Useful for the arm exercises and squats – which I was not doing on my own, but not useful for cardio. Great for beginners. (Oh, and if you want to buy mine, I’m selling it for $20! Retails at $45-60.)

You don’t remind me at all of Deborah from Everybody Loves Raymond. Although, I don’t think I’ve spent enough time with either of you to make a fair judgment.

Oh no I do not think you are Deborah unless you FIL meant it that she is a strong woman in the middle of a bunch chaos and I could see you as a strong woman but I don’t see you having a lot of choas (expressive creativity) and I certainly do not see Steve as a Raymond and those characters are so dependant on each other you can’t have on without the other kinda like good and plentys which by the way I hate. Sorry for the side note
that was just extra
Enjoy. Sorry FIL

You make me feel like such a square. For exercise, I just put shoes on and go outside. I can see some Deborah in you but for the sake of Steve and all else in your home, I hope you never become all like her.

Thanks, n8. i’ll try to keep up the track record of never talking to you in person so you don’t find out my true nature.
carey – you are too funny – the good and plenty thing…i’ll take the good parts of deborah, then.
jeff – you’re not a sanguine.

I definitely have not watched enough of Raymond to be a good judge since the MIL reminds me of mine. But from what I’ve seen you aren’t as big a killjoy as she is. It seems like every episode she’s trying to reprimand Raymond for some trouble he’s gotten into.
As for the Wii Trainer you are more generous than I. I’m not sure I could give it a 7. And I still have 5 more days to go, so you beat me. I’m tempted to send an in-depth analysis email to them, but I’m not sure whether they want to improve it or not. My husband said the people who made it are notorious for making things that are about 80%.
I like how you did this post, I’m tempted to do a similar one, running down the things in my life. You rock!!

MIke – I’ll have to try those.
Carey – thanks. I was just trying to bring in the fall. And Mr Mip had to help me before I could put the new pic up there!
