I’m Freaking Out

I finished a book this weekend and went to put it on my Official Book List 2009…and realized I hadn’t finished a book since the beginning of October. That’s about six weeks without finishing a book! Who am I? That has to be a World Record for Longest Time Between Book Entries on a MIP list.

That’s not to say I haven’t been reading, but I definitely have not been focused lately and definitely have not had time to devote to reading that I used to have back B.C. (Before Children). Although, I will still  – no matter how hard I’m pushed – insist that you will have time to read if you want to read. No using children as excuses. Even if it’s just one page. One word. Soak that word in, roll around in it and appreciate that you got that much done!

So I sat down tonight with Monday Night Football in the background (I love the sound of football and made Mr MIP turn on the surround sound) and worked on finishing one of the books. It’s Godric and it’s by Frederick Buechner and it’s good…but kinda good in a “if you like stories of ancient ascetics who spend time dallying about with buxom beauties and then repent and devote their lives to God” way. It is good  and it does have a rather sly sense of humor and I am enjoying it. Just waiting for a smart woman to be portrayed in it.

And another book I’m devouring right now is Half Broke Horses by Jeannette Walls. She is known for her wonderful book The Glass Castle. (I have recommended that book a million times – so good.) Half Broke Horses tells the story of her grandmother who was raised in New Mexico/Texas and began breaking horses at a young age (like, 6!) and rode 500 miles on her horse by herself to take on a teaching job as a substitute teacher. An amazing story so far and so well-written. Definitely recommend it!

  1. Perhaps if you spent less time trying to beat your uncle at Word Twist …
